For the first time in the travel offer
Thematic description
Military intelligence gathering is subject to constant technological development. While the basics of the first messages were obtained more than 100 years ago from a captive balloon, soon afterwards from aircraft-based on-board photographers and later from fast and low-flying Mirage reconnaissance aircraft, today we are based on satellite-supported data volumes in both the military and civil sectors on a daily basis. The Air Force now has the FLIR system (Super Puma) and is introducing the ADS-15 drone system. By the travel date, the type decision for the new combat aircraft will certainly have been made. We are interested in the possible new educational potential. The Swiss Air Police Service (LP24) has been operating around the clock, 365 days a year, since the end of 2020 with two armed fighter jets.
The tour guide was a jet pilot for many years and not only worked as an air police officer but also as a reconnaissance officer on the Mirage III RS. He will shed light on both the past and the present situation. The two topics (air reconnaissance and air policing) are so comprehensive that we spend three travel days to comprehensively record the tasks of the specialists entrusted with them.

First day of travel
Individual arrival in Dübendorf. Visit to the Flieger Flab Museum on the airfield. In the morning, guided tour of the museum by two pilots who themselves experienced part of the pioneering days of our military aviation. Lunch at the museum restaurant Holding. In the afternoon air reconnaissance once themes: From the balloon to the Venom, Mirage reconnaissance aircraft; Equipment and operational doctrine, reconnaissance association; Bases and squadrons, reconnaissance results and experience reports.
Check into a hotel in Dübendorf and have dinner with former reconnaissance pilots at the shared table. Overnight stay.
Second day of travel
Breakfast in the hotel. Lecture FLIR-Superpuma at Air Transport Squadron 3 in the former surveillance squadron building. Inspection of FLIR hardware (heli + system) at the airfield in Dübendorf. Lunch in the Hangar 11 restaurant (canteen of the Air Force’s „nerve center“ and Skyguide) Visit to the Air Force Operations Center and lecture on Air Police Service 24. Bus ride to Kriens and take the cable car to Mount Pilatus. Dinner and overnight stay in the Pilatus Kulm Hotel (2132 m above sea level).
Third day of travel
Breakfast. Statements on obtaining the air situation picture (MRS) and (depending on the permit) planned visit to the protected facility. Descent to Alpnach with the new train (the steepest cog railway in the world). Bus shift to Emmen. Lunch at the Flab barracks restaurant. Visit to Drone Command 84 at Emmen Air Base. Statements on the ADS 15 project and the future of our air reconnaissance.

Den Teilnehmenden wird vor der Reise eine, zur thematischen Reisevorbereitung verfasste, schriftliche Dokumentation zugestellt. Die Möglichkeit des Downloads zur Nutzung auf elektronischen Geräten wird nach erfolgter, postalischer Zustellung der gedruckten Version durch die Eingabe eines Passworts gewährleistet. Diesen Code erhalten die Teilnehmenden mit erwähnter Sendung.
Der Code lässt vor und während der Reise mehrfache Zugriffe zu. Nach Abschluss der Reise wird dieser wieder deaktiviert. Selbstverständlich kann und darf die Datei lokal dauerhaft gespeichert werden. Die Lesbarkeit der Dokumentation wurden nicht zur Nutzung auf Kleingeräten optimiert. Es handelt sich um die (in der Auflösung stark reduzierte) Vorlage der gedruckten, Ihnen zugestellten Broschüre. Auch sind Unterlagen, welche Ihnen während der Reise ausgehändigt werden, nicht unter diesem Download abrufbar. Bitte nutzen Sie dieses Angebot ausschliesslich für Ihre persönliche Verwendung. Die Dokumentation unterliegt dem Copyright der GMS bzw. der Autoren. Es ist entsprechend nicht statthaft, diese in welcher Form auch immer weiter zu verbreiten. Die Möglichkeit des Erwerbs einer gedruckten Fassung bleibt über das GMS-Antiquariat bestehen.
Auflagen
Das Reisevorhaben ist von Bewilligungen seitens der Luftwaffe abhängig. Entsprechend notwendige Personensicherheitsüberprüfungen (PSI) müssen mit Einwilligung des Mitreisenden durchgeführt werden. Eine frühzeitige Anmeldung mit einem entsprechend frühen Meldeschluss ist zwingend.
Während der Reise wird es an diversen Orten untersagt sein, photographische Aufnahmen zu machen, oft sind auch Restriktionen hinsichtlich des Mitführens von Mobiltelefonen mit einer Zutrittsbewilligung verbunden. GMS Mitglieder wissen das Besuchsprivileg zu schätzen und halten sich vorbehaltslos an die damit verbundenen Auflagen. Der Reiseleiter wird den Teilnehmenden sagen, wann das Photographieren explizit verboten ist.
Anforderungen an die persönliche Fitness
GMS – Kategorie L(+): Die Reise stellt keine besonderen Anforderungen an die körperliche Leistungsfähigkeit der Teilnehmenden. Es bedarf jedoch einer gewissen Beweglichkeit und Ausdauer.
